Death

Death

Death is a poem by Hopewell Valley Central High School senior Mia Vaughn & was published in Panorama, the literary arts magazine.

Death

Do not be afraid of me,
I mean no harm.
From my looks you may be hesitant
To step into my arms.
But trust the natural order And you will be freed
From fear
Of running away from me.
I only come when the times is ready,
That you can be sure.
I know that you are curious
And that I just adore.
I am older than the sun
And god herself,
For I outlaw everyone
As I sit on the highest shelf.
To reap the many lives in which god sows
Is not to die,
But to grow.
Many say
That I take away
The lives that they love,
But that is selfish for I only give a gift they doth not know of.
Enjoy my presence
Because I will not leave,
Not for a very long time,
So know that I am only part of the rhythm,
Not the rhyme.
Do not grieve,
Let go and be pleased,
That I have given the gift of a lifetime.
Many describe me as what they called diseased,
But promise I only take what is mine.
I am the only thing that you can count on,
Not life, success, or love,
Not until I’m gone
Can one dream of
What they believe is above.
So please I ask, with all my might,
Do not think of me as malicious intent,
But rather a mother to kiss you goodnight
And ease your resent.
