In this episode of The Art of Building Championships the Podcast, we discuss the Oklahoma City Thunder and Their rebuild.
Segment 1: The start of the rebuild
OKC had been sent home in the second round for the second straight year. The OKC Thunder know this won’t work with their current roster. After Dame Lillard sent the OKC home Paul Geogre was traded for 5 first-round rounds picks and their franchise player SGA. This turned out to be a huge win trade for the OKC big home run. After getting rid of Paul George, OKC really had no choice, but to trade Russel Westbrook as well to the Houston Rockets for Chris Paul and 2 first-round picks with 2 pick swaps.
Segment 2: Rebuilding in the Draft.
OKC was able to do so many draft picks with their own and other teams. They were bound to hit on one of these draft picks. They were able to pick up Luo Dort. He was an undrafted rookie in 2019 and became a good 3 and d player for OKC. In 2021 they were able to hit on their first draft pick drafting Josh Gidey. Josh Gidey his rookie year showed good potential. The following year OKC drafted a big prospect in Chet Holgrum # 2 overall, who would unfrochally miss his whole rookie year due to injury.
Segment 3: Where they lay right now.
OKC has started their new season looking good their rebuild is still in effect, with Chet Holgrum making his return from injury this season and looking like a rookie of the year candidate. SGA having a great season making himself known as a top 5 guard in the NBA averaging 29 points to start the season. With Josh Gidey averaging a very good 14, 7, and 6. OKC is currently 7-4 and 5 in the west as they look to return to the playoffs for the first time since the bubble in 2020.
