Processing the Past 1930's

Hopewell Valley Student Podcasting Network

Show Name:  Processing the past

Episode Title:  1930s

Segment 1: Music https://www.retrowaste.com/1930s/music-in-the-1930s/

  • Jazz was already popular but now swing was introduced
  • became nationally popular mid 30s
  • even a very popular movie, a classic I must say was released in the 30s. “Over the rainbow” By Judy Garland who plays Dorothy and in the Wizard of Oz is the signature song of the movie and still heard today, this was definitely the song of the century as others claim the same thing.

Segment 2:  Fashion

  • We spoke about fancy yet simple dresses that were easy to dance and walk in during the 20s.
  • The 30s may not be so different but there is always improvement and new styles.
  •  Celebrities did influence the clothing of this time
  •  including Shirley Temple, Jean Harlow and Clark Gable who were famous for being on screen.
  • Last decade dresses and women clothing were more boyish and cut short but now revolving back to the more feminine look with longer dresses and silky evening dresses had come to steal the show

Segment 3:  Art

  • Mr. Picasso was still quite popular in the 30s as well but actually released one of my favorite paintings of his called “Cruxifixion” which is a bright colored abstract painting which would be really cool to hang up in your room.
  • Georgia O’Keefe was starting to get the spotlight for her famous skull pieces that were inspired by actual skulls she had seen and observed in the desert and in nature. Her flower paintings were phenomenal as well.
  • They have such an interesting color palette and I have also recreated some of her work in the past so I have looked up to her since I was younger.

Thank you so much for those of you listening and if you’ve found my talk about the decades interesting, stay tuned for the next episode! You’re listening to Isabella on Processing the past. Thanks bye.
