Calm Chaos
Calm Chaos is a poem by Hopewell Valley Central High School sophomore Karthik Appana & was published in Panorama, the literary arts magazine.
Calm Chaos
The calm before the storm is not much of a phrase than a reality.
I see the wind throw the world into chaos right before me,
it challenged my concentration taunting me every step of the way.
My thoughts returned to me,
the same way the world returned to its peace.
The sunlight had created puzzling patterns
from shining through a plethora of leaves
resonating a warm feeling melting my heart away.
I see the squirrels in the grass
prancing, running, and skipping.
A deep croaking echoes from the distance
and I ponder over the sound
as the source is nowhere to be found.
I stand dwarfed as the trees
stand tall reaching for the sky.
I see the bright and vibrant green
trees get infiltrated by the sharp fall colored leaves
as if it were virus consuming the body.
I hear the twigs below my feet cracking,
at every step
as I feel a click at the tip of my foot.
The world is thrown again into chaos
the planes scream as they pass overhead
The trees, waving and swinging towards me,
left me to think,
can peace reside without chaos?
