Remnants and Loose Ends

Waiting and writing are one letter apart
And yet I do both to repair a shattered heart
Whether it’s my own or one of another
I hope I can act as a comforting cover

I thought that I left you alone in the dust
But still you cling on, manipulating my trust
And forcing yourself into my social circles
You endlessly try to jump over hurdles

Identity is a fickle suggestion
Shrouded in complex and unending questions
But still I pioneer as a lighthouse of hope
Trying to fix people’s limited scope

Therapy is still an institution
An emotional and vulnerable solution
One I have yet to embark upon
Apparently I’m not that far gone

Voices are dancing inside of my head
Figures are screaming in shadows of dread
Anxieties drowning out my optimism
My personality is split like light to a prism

In an instant, we hear gunshot cries
At troubled youths and innocent eyes
The tears will flow freely because safety isn’t given
We die for no reason; for change we are driven

Just one game of cards can create a new habit
With wealth so close, we all try to grab it
Anyone can make it, but not everyone will
In a country ruled by bloody dollar bills

That land of the free is vanishing quick
The home of the brave is housing the sick
And freedom is taken into a new context
We’re hopelessly trying to not fail this contest
